How Neurofeedback Helps Anxiety and Panic Attacks

What happens in the brain that causes people to suffer from anxiety and panic attacks?

Beta brain waves occur naturally during waking hours and when a person is concentrating. High Beta brainwaves, however, can cause agitation, anxiety and worry.  The increase in Beta waves, in its extreme form, can cause panic attacks. Panic attacks can be very difficult to control by an individual.

What does research say about neurofeedback helping anxiety and panic attacks?

There are several studies published in peer reviewed journals that show that neurofeedback training has positive effects on helping with anxiety and panic attacks. These studies reported the following:

      • Decrease anxiety symptoms [1]
      • Reduced negative mood [2]
      • Improvement in mood, energy and confidence [3]
      • Reduced performance anxiety [4]
      • Improvement in overall performance [5]
      • Enhanced control over anxiety [6]

While still in the early stages, research suggests emotional processes could potentially be improved with neurofeedback training as well.

How does neurofeedback work for anxiety?

Here at Dody Chiropractic Center for Wholeness, we use state-of-the-art technology, called qEEG or Brain Mapping to measure and analyze the brainwaves across the entire brain. If your anxiety and panic attacks are due to irregular brainwaves, we can find it!

After we take all the measurements of your brain, we will go over a personalized report and training protocols to correct the brain imbalance.  At this point, we can begin brain training- an enjoyable, safe, and non-invasive process.

During the brain training session, sensors will monitor your brain waves. As you watch a video, our equipment will provide feedback based on your brain’s activity. The better you do with the training, the more visual “rewards” your brain will receive. These rewards teach your brain a more appropriate brain wave pattern. Over time, neurofeedback training can lead to improved brain function, improved mood, normalized behavior and overall well-being.
