Home neurofeedback training

Most of our patients train in the office. If regular trips aren’t practical, especially if you live out of town, you may be able to train from home between visits.

Who is home neurofeedback training for?

It’s mainly for people who can’t easily get to Littleton on a regular schedule, such as patients who live out of town.

Neurofeedback works through repetition, so training means coming back often. For families in Littleton, Highlands Ranch, Ken Caryl and nearby, that usually means sessions in our neurofeedback room. If you live farther away, or your schedule makes frequent trips hard, home training lets you keep up the practice without the drive, while Dr. Dody still oversees your plan. Whether it’s a good fit for you is something he talks through with you, not something we assume.

How does home neurofeedback training work?

It starts in the office, continues at home, and comes back to the office for updated brain maps.

Everything begins with a 20-channel qEEG brain map, the same as for in-office training. Dr. Dody uses your map to decide whether neurofeedback makes sense and, if it does, how to set up your training. Before you leave the office, we walk you through the equipment and the software on your home computer so you feel confident using it on your own. We’ll also go over what your computer needs before you start.

How it goes

Three parts: in the office, at home, and back again

  1. Step 1: Brain map and setup in the office

Your qEEG brain map is recorded here, Dr. Dody plans your training from it, and we show you how to use the equipment before you go home.

  2. Step 2: Train at home

You run your sessions in a quiet room at home. Sessions are recorded so Dr. Dody can review your progress, and our team checks in with you along the way.

  3. Step 3: Return for updated brain maps

You come back periodically for an updated brain map, so you and Dr. Dody can compare it with where you started and adjust the plan if needed.

What is a home neurofeedback session like?

Much like a session in our office: you sit comfortably with a few small sensors on your scalp while you watch or listen, and the feedback does the work.

The sensors only read activity your brain is already producing. Nothing is sent into the brain, and there are no needles. A few simple habits help: choose a calm, softly lit room, turn off other electronics apart from your computer, keep your phone away from the equipment, and avoid caffeine for a couple of hours beforehand. If anything about a session feels off, contact the office and we’ll help.

Why do I need to come back for brain maps?

Because the map is how Dr. Dody keeps your training grounded in measurement rather than guesswork.

An updated map lets you both see how your brain activity compares with your starting point and decide what to do next.A brain map is an assessment, not a diagnosis. It doesn’t diagnose ADHD, anxiety, depression or anything else; only a licensed clinician can do that. How qEEG brain mapping works.

What does home neurofeedback cost, and does insurance cover it?

Costs depend on your plan, so Dr. Dody reviews them with you personally at your report of findings, before you choose a care plan.

Insurance generally doesn’t cover neurofeedback, and there isn’t an insurance network for it, so plan on paying for it directly. Dody Chiropractic is a direct-pay practice, and HSA and FSA cards are welcome. Individual results vary, and we don’t promise outcomes or a set number of sessions. The free call costs nothing, and you can ask about cost then.

Questions about home neurofeedback

Can I do neurofeedback at home?
Yes, for many people. Most patients at Dody Chiropractic train in our Littleton office, but home training is also an option, especially if you live out of town. You start with a brain map and setup in the office, train from home, and come back periodically for updated brain maps.
Do I still need to come into the office?
Yes. Your first brain map and your equipment setup happen in person, and you return periodically for updated brain maps so Dr. Dody can compare them with where you started. Home training doesn’t replace those visits.
Is home neurofeedback the same as training in the office?
The approach is the same: training is planned from your own brain map, and Dr. Dody oversees it. The difference is where you sit. In the office, you train in our neurofeedback room. At home, you run the sessions yourself after being shown how, and your sessions are recorded so Dr. Dody can review your progress.
Can children train at home?
Neurofeedback is generally offered from age 5, and parents are involved from the first conversation onward. Whether home training suits your child and your family’s routine is a good question to ask Dr. Dody on the free call. How we work with children and teens.
Does insurance cover home neurofeedback?
Insurance generally doesn’t cover neurofeedback, whether in the office or at home, and there isn’t an insurance network for it. Dody Chiropractic is a direct-pay practice; HSA and FSA cards are welcome. Dr. Dody goes over costs with you personally at your report of findings, before you choose a care plan.
Do I need to stop my medication to train at home?
No, and please don’t change anything on your own. Decisions about medication belong to you and your prescribing doctor. Neurofeedback and medication do different jobs.
