Questions people ask us

Straight answers to the questions people ask us most, about the free call, brain mapping, neurofeedback, chiropractic, cost and insurance.

Getting started

How do I get started at Dody Chiropractic?
Start with a free call with Dr. Dody, or call (303) 794-1737. You tell him what’s going on, he explains how the practice works and whether he thinks it’s a good fit, and you decide whether to come in. The call is free and there’s no obligation. If you’d like, the team can schedule your new-patient visit during the call.
Is the free call really free?
Yes. There’s no cost and no obligation. The point of the call is to understand what’s going on and give you a realistic picture of your options, including cost. If Dr. Dody doesn’t think the practice is a fit for you, he’ll say so. Pick a time for your call.
What services does Dody Chiropractic offer?
Four, under one roof in Littleton: gentle chiropractic care using KST, qEEG brain mapping, neurofeedback and functional nutrition. Not everyone needs all of them. Dr. Dody explains what he thinks makes sense for you at your report of findings, the visit after your first visit.
Do I need a referral or a diagnosis?
No. You don’t need a referral or a diagnosis to book a free call or a first visit. If you already have a diagnosis or reports from another clinician or your child’s school, you’re welcome to mention them on the call or bring them with you.
What happens at the first visit?
Every new patient has the same $225 new patient visit: a qEEG brain map, three CLA INSiGHT nerve scans, a full neurological and chiropractic exam, and a first gentle KST chiropractic adjustment. Your second visit is the report of findings, where Dr. Dody reviews your results, discusses his recommendations, and you can choose and begin a care plan if you’d like. The first visit, step by step.

Neurofeedback and brain mapping

What is neurofeedback?
Neurofeedback is non-invasive brain training. Small sensors on the scalp read brainwave activity in real time, and a screen or sound gives the brain immediate feedback when it moves toward a more settled pattern. With repetition and practice, the brain can learn to develop new, more balanced patterns of activity. Nothing is sent into the brain. How neurofeedback works.
Is a qEEG brain map a diagnosis?
No. A qEEG brain map is an assessment, not a diagnosis. It measures electrical activity across the brain with a 20-channel cap and compares your patterns with an age-matched database. It does not diagnose ADHD, anxiety, depression or anything else; only a licensed clinician can do that. About brain mapping.
Why does neurofeedback start with a brain map?
Because every brain is different, and training should fit the person in the chair. The map gives Dr. Dody a measured picture of how your brain is working, so he can decide whether neurofeedback makes sense and, if it does, how to set it up. The map is repeated partway through so you can compare.
Is neurofeedback safe? Does it hurt?
Neurofeedback is non-invasive and painless. The sensors only read activity your brain is already producing; nothing is sent into the brain and there are no needles. The most common complaint is a little gel in your hair afterward. Dr. Dody oversees every plan and checks in as you go.
How many neurofeedback sessions will I need?
We can’t tell you that before we’ve seen your brain map, and we won’t promise a number. People differ, and so do their goals. After your map, Dr. Dody explains what he’d suggest, how progress will be checked (including a follow-up map) and what it costs. You decide from there.
Is neurofeedback the same as biofeedback?
Neurofeedback is a kind of biofeedback, and is sometimes called EEG biofeedback. Biofeedback in general gives you feedback about a body signal; neurofeedback gives the brain feedback about its own electrical activity, which it normally has no way to see. More about neurofeedback.
Does neurofeedback replace medication?
No. Neurofeedback and medication do different jobs, and one isn’t a substitute for the other. Many people who come to us take medication, and that’s fine. Decisions about medication belong to you and your prescribing doctor. Please don’t start, stop or change any medication without talking to them first.

Chiropractic

Does a chiropractic adjustment hurt?
Most people find it gentle. Dr. Dody uses the Koren Specific Technique (KST), an instrument-based method with no cracking and no twisting. If anything feels uncomfortable, tell him and he’ll adjust how he works. How chiropractic care works here.
What is brain-based chiropractic?
It’s chiropractic care that treats the spine as part of the nervous system rather than as a set of joints. At Dody Chiropractic, adjustments use gentle KST and are guided by nerve scans and a full neurological exam. The idea behind it: the brain and the spine are one nervous system.
What are CLA INSiGHT nerve scans?
They are scans that look at nervous system stress, muscle tension and autonomic function. Every new patient has three of them at the first visit, alongside the brain map and exam. Dr. Dody uses them to guide chiropractic care and to check progress later on. What the first visit includes.
If I come for neurofeedback, do I have to get adjusted too?
No. Some people come only for neurofeedback and some only for chiropractic care. Dr. Dody may suggest combining them when he thinks it makes sense for you, and he’ll explain why. The decision is always yours.

Cost and insurance

Do you take insurance?
We’re a direct-pay practice, so we’re not in-network with insurance plans. For chiropractic care, we can give you a superbill, an itemized receipt with the codes insurers ask for, that you can submit to your insurance for possible out-of-network reimbursement. Whether you’re reimbursed depends on your plan. Neurofeedback is different: insurance generally doesn’t cover it, and there isn’t an insurance network for it. How paying works.
What is a superbill?
A superbill is an itemized receipt with the codes insurers ask for. For chiropractic care, we can provide one so you can submit it to your insurance yourself for possible out-of-network reimbursement. We don’t submit claims for you, and reimbursement isn’t guaranteed; it depends on your plan.
Can I use my HSA or FSA card?
Yes. HSA and FSA cards are welcome, and you’ll get an itemized receipt for your records. If you have questions about how your own account works, your HSA or FSA administrator is the best source.
How much does care cost?
The new patient visit is $225, the same for everyone, and includes your nerve scans, brain map, examination and first chiropractic adjustment. What the first visit includes. Ongoing care depends on your plan, so Dr. Dody goes over it with you personally at your report of findings, before you choose a care plan. You can also ask about cost on the free call.
Do you accept Medicare or Medicaid?
We’re a direct-pay practice and aren’t in-network with any insurance plan. If you have a question about Medicare or Medicaid specifically, call (303) 794-1737 and a member of the team will talk it through with you.

Kids and families

What age do you start seeing children?
Chiropractic care is available for all ages, including infants. Neurofeedback is generally offered starting at age 5. We see children, teens and adults, and neurofeedback sessions are calm and seated, with the feedback usually coming through a show or game on screen. How we work with children and teens.
Do parents stay with their child?
Yes. A parent stays with their child at the first visit, and Dr. Dody goes over the findings with you at the report of findings. Parents are involved from the first conversation onward and are part of every decision.
